Foods which you should start eating before the summer strikes

With the hot days just around the corner, it’s time to get ready for the scorching sun, heat burns, sun strokes, dehydration and many more. It does not means that summers are the months of trouble and health issues, there is lot that you can still enjoy on the summers, like the beach time, or pool time, or lake time, evening outings and much more.

As the beginning of the new season could be quite tricky, it requires a change in routine, and off course a revamped diet and foods that gets you ready for the upcoming weather. The onset of the warm season makes the body more vulnerable to certain illnesses and therefore certain dietary guidelines must be followed to ensure a healthy incoming summer.

Here are certain foods that you should start eating to prevent or reduce the risks of falling ill, not just before summers but throughout the season.

  • Watermelon: getting some of it is a great way to rehydrate. Watermelon contains almost 90% water, and is the best source of cancer fighting lycopene. Its high water content keeps you hydrated and cool in the heat. The lycopene is a great element to protect your skin from sun damages.
  • Oranges: this citrus fruit is highly rich in potassium, a crucial nutrient for the summers. We lose a lot of potassium through our sweats in the hot months, causing muscle cramps. Eating oranges replenish the potassium loss and keeps us safe from these cramps. It also contains 80% water that helps us keep hydrated in the summers.
  • Freshly brewed iced tea: zero calories and rich in antioxidants, teas also helps reducing weight and what could be a better way to drink it than iced in the hot weather.
  • Mixed fruit salad: summers are the season for colourful berries and other watery fruits. It is believed that fruit eaters weigh less than people who don’t eat fruits. Rich in antioxidants and vitamins, and some, especially berries, are packed with high fibers.
  • Zucchini: is a perfect summer veggie. It has zero fat and cholesterol, and 35% of your daily-recommended intake of vitamin C.
  • Yoghurt: this protein packed dairy protect is especially made for the summers. It not only satisfies the tummy but also keeps you away from salty, high calories snacks by keeping you full. It also adds some probiotics, a beneficial bacteria that aids the digestive system working properly.
